CMED 20/30 Project Work


Project Types

Students must complete 8 projects by the end of the school year. Minimum types of each project are as follows:
  • AUDIO - 1
  • VIDEO - 2
  • INTERACTIVE MEDIA - 1

The remaining three projects can be chosen from any of the previous types or from the following:
  • ANIMATION
  • GRAPHIC DESIGN

AUDIO PROJECTS

Interview:
This project requires you with a crew (maximum 2) to produce a 4-minute non-fiction audio interview with a 30-second commercial. Your interview must include radio station id, people and topic introductions, open-ended conversation style actual interview with a 30-second commercial in the middle and conclusion as well as background opening and closing music. News/Sportscast:
This project requires you with a crew (maximum 2) to produce a 3-minute radio news and/or sportscast with a 30-second commercial. Your news/sportscast must include radio station id, announcer introductions with the date, a 30-second commercial partway through and conclusion as well as background opening and closing music and sound effects. Radio Drama:
This project requires you with a crew (maximum 2 people) to produce a 3-minute radio drama. Your radio drama must include an original script as well as sound effects and background music. Many radio dramas can be found and listened to online. An example of a radio drama is the infamous War of the Worlds by Orson Welles. Open the attached files for further details.




Radio PSA:
This project requires you to produce a 90-second radio public service announcement (PSA). Your PSA must include an introduction, short audio skit and conclusion as well as sound effects and background music. Open the attached file for further details.


VIDEO PROJECTS

Documentary:

This project requires you with a crew to produce a brief video that is designed to educate the viewer on a specific topic/person. This differs from an instructional video in the fact that the viewer will not develop a particular skill but will gain knowledge. This could include biographies.


Event Video:

Film Short:
This project requires you with a crew (maximum 5) to produce a very short (5- to 7-minute) film with a basic plot. This can be an original comedy, action or drama story. When completed properly, this counts as TWO projects.



Instructional:
This project requires you with a crew to produce a brief (3- to 6-minute) video that demonstrates how to accomplish a specialized hands-on task.
Examples of this could include (but not limited to):
- mechanical repair
- carpentry
- landscaping/gardening
- baking
- electrical
- construction
- sewing
- plumbing
- farm/ranch task



Movie Trailer:
This project requires you with a crew (maximum 5) to produce a movie trailer based on: an existing movie, a story that was never a movie, an imagined, yet unwritten story or other approved ideas.


Parody:
This project requires you with a crew (maximum 5) to produce a parody of a popular movie, celebrity, song or other. Some examples of parody shows include This Hour has 22 Minutes, Air Farce, Saturday Night Live, or MadTV. Many examples can be found on Youtube.
Parody: (n.) an imitation of the style of a particular wirter, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect



INTERACTIVE MEDIA PROJECTS
Game Design:
This project requires you to produce an interactive game using Scratch or similar software. Your game must have a clear concept/goal/objective and include original design elements (sprites/objects, rooms/backgrounds, sounds, music and other variables). Open the attached file for further details.



Presentation:
This project requires you to produce an interactive presentation. Your presentation must include 10 to 15 pages/slides/focus areas on a specific topic and must allow for user interaction (other than advancing the presentation). Open the attached file for further details.



Website:
This project requires you to produce an interactive website on a specific topic. Your website must include a minimum of 4 pages. One will be a home/main page and the others must cover a unique sub-topic. Within the 4 pages, there must be text, graphics/images, video, and interactive elements. A minimum of 2 videos and an interactive element on each page are required.

ANIMATION PROJECTS

Computer-Generated:
This project requires you to create a short (1- to 2-minute) story-based animation from computer software (ex: Scratch). View the Scratch website (scratch.mit.edu) for samples of what can be done. Other software such as Sketchup Make and Pivot Stick Figure might also be helpful. Open the attached file for further details.


Stop Motion:
This project requires you to create a short (30-second to 2-minute) story-based animation. Formats can include:
  • person-focused with special effects (i.e. if it could have been simply video-taped, it’s not suitable for stop-motion animation – see examples)
  • object-oriented (legos, stuffed animals, model vehicles, dolls, sticky notes, etc.)
  • art-based (clay, drawings, paintings, magazine cutouts, etc.)
  • combination (combining the above styles)

GRAPHIC DESIGN PROJECTS

3D Printed Model
This project requires you to design and produce a unique multi-component 3D model that serves a practical function.


Entrance Slideshow:
This project requires you to produce a kiosk-run presentation. Your presentation must include information and visuals for the entrance screen. Information must include upcoming events and reminders as well as any promotional items. Visuals will include graphics and images to enhance the presentation as well as photos from earlier school activities.

Grad Slideshow:
This project requires you to produce a compiled video of grad slideshows complete with introduction and conclusion sections. Be aware: deadlines on this project are strict and tight.

Magazine Cover:
This project requires you to produce a magazine cover using your own images or creative commons content. Images without CC licenses or images that have any watermarks are not allowed. Credit to images must be given – keep track of where you get your images.


Yearbook Pages:
This project requires you to produce SIX pages for the most current production year yearbook project. Once added to the team, you will be able to log in to the Picaboo website.


Consideration will be given to alternate project ideas but must be approved in advance.
